Ecotourism-Heritage- Education (EHE): A partnership for

intercultural citizenship in 3 conflict zones

Project Partners:

Eilot Environmental Unit (Israel) www.eilot.org.il

Arava & Dead Sea Science Center (Israel) www.adssc.org.il

i.GREENs (Jordan) http://www.igreens.net/

Cultural Heritage without Borders (Albania) http://chwb.org/albania/

Project Goal: EHE will promote tolerance and mutual respect to advance sustainable development among tourism entrepreneurs. Project partners will learn from each other's experiences working on sustainable development in conflict zones.

Activities: EHE comprises a 6-month training course for small-scale tourist entrepreneurs in Eilot (Israel) and Rahmeh (Jordan) communities.

Participants attend weekly training meetings where they are gaining theoretical and practical knowledge about eco-tourism in the southern region.

Two workshops bring all 28 Israeli and Jordanian participants together to explore ways to connect their enterprises for improved incomes and livelihoods, chiefly via cross-border cooperation and networks.

All participants receive advice on developing individual and collaborative business plans for Israel-Jordan eco-tourism.

Knowledge-exchanges: Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) Albania has developed acclaimed techniques for peacebuilding through community actions geared at small historical site repairs, a model which is unknown in the Middle East.

Eilot Environmental Unit (Israel), Arava & Dead Sea Science Center (Israel), and iGREENs (Jordan) have extensive experience in peacebuilding through environmental education.

In a series of knowledge exchanges built into the EHE project, staff from each organization will travel for study visits between Albania, Israel, and Jordan to present their work and enhance their knowledge of sustainable development in conflict zones.
